.faq.

So, the purpose of this blog is to basically just talk about the different Vocaloid-related things I enjoy. It's not official in any way and will definitely be affected by my own biases. But partly in order to make it more accessible to other people and partly to catalog how I got into it in the first place (in case I leave it and want to go back later), I've made a few informational posts. They may not be the most comprehensive but I've tried to keep everything fairly simple.

The basics. )

.resources.

This is where you can find different resources - for videos, radio shows, art, fanfiction, or whatever else I can think of which might be helpful or of interest. Most of these I found through google - so if something's not here, just try searching randomly. It's pretty easy to find things if you try.

So, I'll get around to posting the rest of the informational stuff over the month or something. In the meantime, I want to get to posting some favorites!

【オリジナル曲PV】恋人のランジェ【初音ミク】 | Hatsune Miku - Lover Rangge

This is one of those songs that I put on and then started to walk away to do something really quickly (I think I was gathering up stuff to throw in the trash) - and then it started and I kind of stood there listening to it.

Usually when I first hear a Vocaloid song, I go for the song over the content - which, considering the fact that my Japanese is rusty as hell, is kind of the only thing I can do. I listen for the feeling of a song before the actual words.

It's not just something I do with Japanese music - it's with anything. Most of the songs I enjoyed growing up I liked based on how they sounded. If I liked the sound, I bothered to look up the words (sometimes). It's the same thing with Japanese.

Some words or phrases I understand - but mostly it's the feeling I like. Sometimes the feeling is conveyed in the actual video enough for me to get what's going on. But with this, I hadn't been watching the video initially; just listening to the sound. And it sounds a little like what crying feels like to me.

The beginning is what hooked me most, though. Sometimes I restart the song two or three times just to hear that beginning section again.

One more song before I crash for the night!

【Project DIVA 2nd】下剋上(完)【エディットPV】 | Kagamine Len & Rin - Revolution

Okay, so I'm linking the PROJECT DIVA version of this song because I like that one the most. It's just fun and they move and I like the hand motions. T_T

This song... I really wasn't into this song when it first started. But I usually try to let songs go for a full minute before making a judgment call on whether or not I want to listen to the rest - and once I hit those glorious 31 seconds and that beat kicked in, I was sold.

Then the song just got better and catchier! So, win/win. The lyrics make it even funnier. Poor Len.

Definitely an easy one to get stuck in your head. Is very repeat-friendly.

A recent popular one...

【オリジナル曲PV】マトリョシカ【初音ミク・GUMI】

Since it's linked in the youtube clip, these are Matryoshka.

I was kind of surprised when I saw that this song had made it to #1. Not entirely surprised, since the art for this is just that exact touch of edgy needed to make something popular. (I'm not hating - I like it, too.) Everything is well-crafted to be a hit, I suppose - good use of different sounds/noises, fast-paced, happy and light feeling.

The song is growing on me the more I listen to it - but the first time I heard it, I looked at the rankings for that week and went, "... really? This song?" It just didn't seem like the kind of thing that would carry all the way to first place. But there's been a real boom - there's even a tumblr account just for that one song. Who knew?

Some art, because it's cool. )
