Ah, this one!

Oh, I cannot say enough great things about this! Still fits into the realm of semi-creepy (the way I like) - but is so cute and catchy and has a great beat and ohhh, I love it! Perfect for upcoming Halloween excitement and is strangely sweet (with her being married to a pumpkin) and and and... yes.

I knew I liked this one from the moment it started, with that star-like-sounding intro. I have no idea what makes that little twinkling sound, but put together with the rest it just really works for me. The background really compliments the sound. It's just a really solid piece of Vocaloid music.

A recent popular one...

Since it's linked in the youtube clip, these are Matryoshka.

I was kind of surprised when I saw that this song had made it to #1. Not entirely surprised, since the art for this is just that exact touch of edgy needed to make something popular. (I'm not hating - I like it, too.) Everything is well-crafted to be a hit, I suppose - good use of different sounds/noises, fast-paced, happy and light feeling.

The song is growing on me the more I listen to it - but the first time I heard it, I looked at the rankings for that week and went, "... really? This song?" It just didn't seem like the kind of thing that would carry all the way to first place. But there's been a real boom - there's even a tumblr account just for that one song. Who knew?

Some art, because it's cool. )

So, I'll get around to posting the rest of the informational stuff over the month or something. In the meantime, I want to get to posting some favorites!

【オリジナル曲PV】恋人のランジェ【初音ミク】 | Hatsune Miku - Lover Rangge

This is one of those songs that I put on and then started to walk away to do something really quickly (I think I was gathering up stuff to throw in the trash) - and then it started and I kind of stood there listening to it.

Usually when I first hear a Vocaloid song, I go for the song over the content - which, considering the fact that my Japanese is rusty as hell, is kind of the only thing I can do. I listen for the feeling of a song before the actual words.

It's not just something I do with Japanese music - it's with anything. Most of the songs I enjoyed growing up I liked based on how they sounded. If I liked the sound, I bothered to look up the words (sometimes). It's the same thing with Japanese.

Some words or phrases I understand - but mostly it's the feeling I like. Sometimes the feeling is conveyed in the actual video enough for me to get what's going on. But with this, I hadn't been watching the video initially; just listening to the sound. And it sounds a little like what crying feels like to me.

The beginning is what hooked me most, though. Sometimes I restart the song two or three times just to hear that beginning section again.
